Linus Airways , Indonesia
A new Indonesian domestic carrier, Linus Airways should be starting operations in April 1st. The following article says they will use a 727-200, and I can confirm there is a 737-200 on it's way which should arrive on March 31st, ex Southwest N95SW, painted in an attractive, bright green thumbsup color scheme.

Jakarta - Lintas Nusantara Airways (Linus), satu operator baru, akan menerbangi tiga rute penerbangan yakni Jakarta-Tanjung Pandan, Jakarta-Palembang dan Jakarta-Medan-Banda Aceh mulai 1 April 2005.
Presiden Direktur Linus Airways J. Indra mengatakan ketiga rute baru tersebut akan dilayani setiap hari dengan menggunakan satu unit Boeing 727-200 berkapasitas 122 kursi.
"Meski persaingan sesama operator kini sangat ketat, kami optimistis bisa ikut memberikan pelayanan terbaik kepada masyarakat. Kami akan mulai terbang perdana pada 1 April," katanya didampingi Direktur Niaga Linus Harry Priyono kepada Bisnis Senin.
Dia menjelaskan pada pekan kedua April diharapkan satu pesawat lagi akan tiba di Indonesia memperkuat armada perusahaan baru tersebut.
"Armada kedua yang akan tiba pada minggu kedua April itu akan dipakai untuk melayani rute lain, karena untuk tiga rute pertama cukup dilayani satu pesawat saja."
Rute lainnya yang segera diterbangi Linus adalah Jakarta-Batam, Batam-Pekanbaru dan Pekanbaru-Medan.
Menurut Harry, pada ke enam rute yang akan diterbangi Linus ini sudah ada lebih dahulu operator lain dengan berbagai kelebihan terutama dengan konsep tarif murah.
"Kami tidak akan menjadikan tarif murah sebagai kekuatan kami, tetapi loyalitas pelanggan yang selama ini sudah kami layani dalam penerbangan carteran."
Indra menjelaskan kedua Boeing 737-200 yang akan digunakan Linus disewa dari perusahaan leasing Air Smith Amerika Serikat dengan pola dry lease (tanpa menggunakan kru). Pesawat yang disewa ini bekas dipakai perusahaan penerbangan South West.
Dia menjelaskan Linus sengaja mulai terbang pada masa low season, sehingga bisa lebih berbenah dan mempelajari pasar dan pada saat penumpang padat perusahaannya sudah dikenal oleh pelanggannya.
Sebelumnya dalam kesempatan terpisah Direktur Angkutan Udara Dephub Santoso Eddy Wibowo membenarkan dua maskapai penerbangan baru yakni Linus Airways dan TransAsia akan ikut meramaikan persaingan industri penerbangan dalam negeri.
Eddy mengatakan kedua maskapai itu saat ini telah selesai mengurus Surat Izin Usaha Penerbangan (SIUP). Namun kendati proses SIUP suduah selesai kedua maskapai itu masih proses pengurusan Air Operation Certificate (AOC).
Dengan hadirnya kedua maskapai itu nantinya, maka jumlah perusahaan penerbangan berjadual di Indonesia akan mencapai 24 maskapai setelah sebelumnya tercatat 22 perusahaan penerbangan berjadual yang beroperasi di Tanah Air.
"Keduanya, Linus Airlines dan TransAsia sudah mengurus SIUP, dan saat ini masih menunggu proses AOC," ujar Eddy.
Hingga saat ini Dephub masih memproses beberapa airlines yang sudah mengajukan proposal perizinan usahanya. Namun beberapa di antaranya masih harus menjalani beberapa tahapan seperti AOC sehingga belum bisa dipastikan kapan maskapai itu akan beroperasi. (en)

Menteri Perhubungan Jusman Syafii Djamal masih memberi kesempatan kepada manajemen Adam Air untuk memeperbaiki kinerja keselamatan penumpang, menyusul insiden serius di Bandara Hang Nadim Batam senin, 10/3/2008.
Bila tidak ada peraabaikan maka air operator sertificate (AOC/ijin operasi) Adam Air akan dicabut. Jika dalam waktu itu tingkat keselamatan penumpang terus terancam maka posisinya kan diturunkan dari kategori II menjadi kategori III, dan biasanya disertai pencabutan ijin operasi. Direktur Komunikasi Adam Air Danke Drajat mengungkapkan " Ada sejumlah manual yang harus kami penuhi sehingga menjadi maskapai yang layak di kategori I."

Minister's claims on avian flu for the birds, says US

THE United States has rejected the Indonesian Health Minister's
claims it is using bird flu samples to produce biological
weapons, and World Health Organisation officials have condemned
allegations of conspiring to profit from bird flu vaccines.
Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is believed to
have ordered Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari to recall
copies of her book on avian influenza, It's Time for the World
to Change, which alleges the US and WHO are conspiring against
developing countries by seizing control of bird flu samples.
WHO officials said they were dismayed by some of the claims, and
urged Dr Supari to do more to control bird flu's spread and end
her refusal to share virus samples, which the WHO says is
hampering attempts to find a cure.
US State Department spokeswoman Susan Stahl denied Dr Supari's
claim that Indonesian virus samples had been sent to a
biological weapons laboratory in Los Alamos. The laboratory has
no bird flu viruses from Indonesia or elsewhere, she said.
The only involvement of the facility was hosting a database of
publicly available genetic sequencing data to help track the
evolution of the virus, she said.
Dr Supari yesterday continued to state that virus samples had
been sent via the WHO to a biological weapons laboratory in Los
Alamos.
"Whether they use it to make vaccine or develop chemical weapons
would depend on the need and interest of the US Government," she
said. "It is indeed a very dangerous situation for the destiny
of humanity." WHO's assistant director-general for health
security, David Heymann, said he was puzzled by the claims.
"I don't understand why they would take this virus to make a
biological weapon. It doesn't transmit from human to human.
"Indonesia needs to spend more time on dealing with infections
with chickens, and stopping humans being infected. They need to
be sharing the viruses with the world community so we can do the
proper risk analysis to help attack the problem."
Dr Supari had "opened a very important issue" of improving
access to vaccines, Dr Heymann said. "The problem we've had is
interpreting how to move this message forward.
"She could be a part of the solution, instead she is only
highlighting the problem."
He said he had discussed the book with Dr Supari. "She told me
(Dr Yudhoyono) had made her take it off the market," he said.
The director of the WHO's Collaborating Centre for Influenza, in
Melbourne, Anne Kelso, said she was saddened by Dr Supari's
accusations.
"We feel we are working for global public benefit by monitoring
how this virus is changing as it moves around the world,"
Professor Kelso said. "We don't personally profit in any way
from that work."
